On April 16, 2024, foreign students of Rostov State Medical University, studying in English as an intermediary language, took part in the student scientific and practical conference “Medical Topics in Literature and Art Around the World,” which is traditionally held on the initiative of the Department of Foreign Languages with a Latin language course (head of the Department – candidate of political sciences, associate professor Yulia Borisovna Nektarevskaya).
The scientific conference brought together students from all faculties, including the Faculty on Training Foreign Students and Postgraduates.
The conference opened up prospects for harmonious interaction between Russian and foreign students, created a bridge for effective communication and became an effective tool for developing a tolerant consciousness based on respect for one’s own culture and the cultures of other peoples.
The event became a unique chance for foreign students to learn and study the peculiarities of medicine in different countries of the world, as well as to reveal the deepest connection between medicine and art.
The presented reports aroused interest among the international audience, which was confirmed by numerous questions and lengthy discussions. The students’ reports were colorfully presented with original presentations and videos.
The event was highly appreciated by Pandey Upasana, a 4th-year foreign student of the Faculty on Training Foreign Students and Postgraduates, who took first place at the conference. She emphasized the deepest connection between medicine and art in its various manifestations: “Communication with art, its use in the medical and preventive work of doctors, their direct artistic creativity play an important role in the spiritual development of the personality of a medical worker. Art improves the doctor’s creative abilities, encouraging him to engage in aesthetic activities and professional art.”
Both conference winners, foreign students Sharma Siddharth Bahadur and Samer Ajamaeh, agreed with her, noting that thanks to this kind of meetings, Rostov State Medical University has become for them a place where favorable conditions are created for the formation of a tolerant consciousness based on respect for their own culture and the cultures of other peoples, situations of cultural, interpersonal, interethnic, formal and informal communication, ensuring the development of tolerant personality traits of future doctors.
