The Olympiad on the Russian language, dedicated to the Day of Slavic writing and culture at the Department of Russian language and culture of Russian speech (head of the department — Doctor of Philology Sknar G.D.), was held on May 23, 2017. The Olympiad was held in two rounds: written and oral.
The chairman of the jury spoke about the criteria by which written works were evaluated and named the winners. More than 40 participants from different countries submitted their compositions to the contest: they wrote about their homeland, about the role of youth in the modern world, about their future profession. These were sincere, deep, sometimes touching discourse on topics of concern to students.
The jury has awarded with diplomas and thanks the following freshmen’s compositions in various nominations: Aesh Sophie (Saudi Arabia), Al-Subari Jihad (Yemen), Simpa Oter (Zambia), Atvi Hassan (Lebanon), Vassiliev Verginia (Israel), Mzanar Sarah (Lebanon) , Hanadi Al Sharifi (Yemen).
«I followed in the footsteps of my father. He graduated from our university about 20 years ago. Now he is an operating abdominal surgeon, Doctor of Medicine. I chose to study at RostSMU on the recommendation of my father, because here they give me deep knowledge. And I’m proud of my choice, » — writes Aesh Sophie.
Senior lecturer Deripasko L.I. introduced attendees to the history of emergence of Slavic writing, told about the significance of the great Russian literature and culture in the modern world.
Participants in the oral round of the Olympiad recited poetry by A.S. Pushkin, S. Yesenin, R. Gamzatov, K. Simonov, M.Tsvetayeva’s prose, and also sang songs in Russian.
The performances of Chiokbonda Emanuel (Nigeria), Silval Saroj (Nepal), Kavanga John (Namibia), Nikolovski Alexandre (Macedonia) were particularly remembered.
Students of the Preparatory Faculty of RostSMU, who recited poems and sang along with other famous «Katyusha», were also among the guests of the Olympiad.
