The semester has come to an end, but the 2nd year students of the Faculty of General Medicine (English Medium) training at the Department of Russian Language No. 2 (head of the department N.A. Ranneva) continue to get acquainted with the sights and history of the city they live and study. During the Russian language lessons students read texts about Rostov, participated in a quiz, consolidating their knowledge of the city, and prepared presentations about famous people who made the city famous for their achievements in various fields of science, culture, and public life. And finally, beautiful weather allowed us to see the city firsthand in all its glory and feel its history. The tour of the center of Rostov was organized by M.B. Samoilova, Associate Professor of the Russian Language Department No. 2.
The tour started at the fortress walls and the monument to the founders of the city. The students recalled the history of the construction of the fortress and the brave Cossacks who defended the borders of Russia. The monuments to Empress Elizabeth and Ataman Matvey Platov aroused not only an aesthetic response among tourists, but also deepened interest in Russian history. The students paid special attention to the modern appearance of the city, whose architecture harmoniously combines various styles and eras. Everywhere they remembered the names of famous people in Russia. The memorial plaque at 97 Bolshaya Sadovaya street reminded the students of the Nobel Laureate I.P. Pavlov’s stay in our city, about whose discoveries they had heard in their homeland. The monument to Z.V. Ermolyeva was interested in its original design. Students came to the conclusion that Russia is a country that reads and honors its writers. They took memorable photos at the monuments to A.S. Pushkin, A.P. Chekhov, M.A. Sholokhov, A.Kalinin, V. Zakrutkin. The students named the Don State Public Library, which they loved, as the cultural and educational center of the Southern Capital. Thus, the tour proved to be useful, informative and fascinating.
