Olympiad in regional studies “Tell me about Russia…” was held at the Department of Russian Language No. 2 among students of the Preparatory Faculty on Training Foreign Citizens. Students presented individual and team creative projects on the following topics:
“Russia is a beautiful country”
“Russia is a multinational country”
“Russia through the eyes of a foreign student”
“Great people of Russia”
Head of the Department of Russian Language No. 2 N.A. Ranneva noted: “The purpose of the Olympiad was to update the regional studies material, develop interest in learning the Russian language, the history and culture of Russia, and foster respect for the traditions and customs of the country of the language being studied. While working on creative projects, foreign students broadened their horizons and joined the Russian heritage.”
The topics that aroused the greatest interest among foreign citizens were: “Russia is a beautiful country” and “Russia through the eyes of a foreign student”. Students demonstrated their knowledge, expressed trust and respect for Russia, as well as appreciation and love. The students emphasized the uniqueness of Russia which is manifested in its diversity and unity, in its distinctive cultural and spiritual values and traditions. For foreigners, Russia is “inspiring”, “special”, “historical”, “friendly” and “hospitable”.
The jury paid attention to the structure, content, design and originality of the presentation and the prizes were distributed as follows:
1st place — Kamara Aminata Yusuf (Sierra Leone)
2nd place — Felix Julieta Kaombu (Angola)
3rd place — Yusuf Mohammad (Nigeria)
