On May 25, on the Philologist’s Day, the Intercollegiate online student Conference «Medicine and Literature: the life and creative work of writers, who were involved in medical studies as well» was held at the Department of Russian Language No. 2 of the Faculty on Training Foreign Students and Postgraduates .
The choice of the conference topic is not accidental, as many talented writers came to literature from medicine. These were V. Dal, A. Chekhov, V. Veresaev, M. Bulgakov, V. Aksenov, F. Rabelais, A. Conan Doyle, S. Maugham, and many others.
Literature and medicine are brought together by the deepest interest in the human person, since it is the caring attitude towards a person that determines a true writer and a true doctor. As the well-known French writer A.D. Maurois used to say, «both of them, a doctor and a writer, are passionately interested in people, both of them try to unravel what is obscured by deceptive appearances. Both forget about themselves and their own lives, observing the lives of others.»
The conference participants told in their reports about such writers as mentioned above, who were involved in medical studies as well: students of the 2nd and 3rd courses of the General Medicine (English Medium) and students of the Preparatory Faculty of RostSMU, students of the SFU, RNRMU named after N. I. Pirogov, TulSU.
